Forget the coloring books and pre-cut templates . We are here to smash, roll, stamp, and experiment! Messy Masters is a hands-on, high-energy immersion into the fundamental building blocks of art—lines, shapes, and textures—taught entirely through interactive process art. Students become tiny scientists in an art laboratory, discovering how different materials behave when they collide. There are no patterns to follow, just endless ways to play, discover, and make a beautiful mess.
The 4-Week Lab Breakdown:
• Week 1: Lines in Motion: Dropping the paintbrushes to explore physical lines using gravity and physics. We investigate high-velocity marble painting, roll paint tracks with upcycled tires, and tilt boards to capture kinetic motion on paper.
• Week 2: Texture Hunters: Discovering how art feels! Kids create dimensional, tactile masterpieces using shaving cream paint swirls, kinetic sensory sand, layered fabrics, and clean wood scrap composites.
• Week 3: The Printing Press: Exploring shapes and patterns through unconventional printmaking. We roll bold inks onto bubble wrap, plastic gears, and textured cardboard skeletons, stamping original, highly layered pattern sheets.
• Week 4: Interactive Chaos: Bringing everything together in large-scale, collaborative process art. A final week of deep, student-led experimentation on giant wall papers where the creative journey is the entire destination.

Real artists don’t copy; they steal inspiration and make it their own! Master's Studio dives straight into the minds of history’s most rebellious, brilliant artists. But we aren't here to make boring, identical replicas of museum paintings. Using our choice-based Teaching for Artistic Behavior pedagogy, your child will study how the masters thought, analyze their creative choices, and raid our salvage bins to construct original, legendary masterpieces that speak their own artistic language.
The 4-Week Rebellious Breakdown:
• Week 1: Radical Re-Abstracting: Breaking down shapes, lines, and bold colors inspired by Picasso's Cubism and Kandinsky's musical rhythms. Students build abstract, three-dimensional faces and designs using salvaged geometric plastics and cardboard.
• Week 2: The Action Painters: Channelling the physical, high-energy painting processes of Jackson Pollock and Joan Mitchell. We explore how movement, scale, and raw emotion translate onto large-scale canvases without traditional brushwork.
• Week 3: Found-Object Surrealism: Diving into the bizarre, dreamlike worlds of Salvador Dalí and Louise Nevelson. Kids use their planning sheets to curate the weirdest salvage—old doll parts, tech motherboards, gears—and assemble a surrealist shadow box.
• Week 4: Pop Art & Mass Culture: Exploring how Andy Warhol and Keith Haring turned commercial, everyday objects into high art. Students execute a self-directed final project commenting on modern culture using printmaking, collage, or painting.

Step into the printmaking laboratory and discover how to capture the rich textures of Ketchikan's rainforest and industrial salvage on paper. This course is a deep dive into print mechanics, brayer work, and ink density. Instead of identical runs, students build custom stamps from salvage, roll vibrant gradients, and create original print editions.
The 4-Week Ink Breakdown:
• Week 1: Botanical Monoprints & The Gel Plate: Mastering brayers, ink rolling, and paint density. Students use Gelli plates to capture the physical, intricate patterns of local ferns, leaves, and coastal mosses in multi-layered organic pulls.
• Week 2: Stamp Design & Salvage Carving: Upcycling as a graphic tool. Students design and carve custom, reusable stamps using dense foam sheets, wood blocks, wine corks, and cardboard skeletons, exploring negative space and repeating patterns.
• Week 3: Color Transitions & Registrations: Introducing advanced techniques like the 'rainbow roll' (gradient ink blending) and stencils. Students build a physical registration grid to line up multiple color layers perfectly.
• Week 4: The Final Edition & Portfolio: Working like professional printmakers. Students spend the final week printing a limited edition series on heavy paper or upcycled fabrics, compiling an original zine, or pulling poster runs.
STUDIO TIP FOR PRINTING: Printmaking is highly compatible with salvaged materials! Encourage your students to roll inks over vintage Ketchikan blueprints, old marine charts, or dockwood cuts for stunning, local results.

Whether you are working on a portfolio submission, designing original pieces for the local Wearable Art runway, or just need a low-pressure space to experiment with new mediums, The Sanctuary is your shared creative loft. We provide the professional tools, the workspace, and the raw upcycled materials; you bring the vision. Focus deeply on your own self-directed projects, unwind in a screen-free zone of high-focus flow, or test-drive advanced media.
Advanced Creative Stations:
• The Pyrography (Wood Burning) Station: Master the art of drawing with heat. Using professional pyrography pens, wood burners, and safety gear, you can burn custom illustrations, typography, and graphic designs onto salvaged local dockwood blocks, raw timber slices, or vintage wood molding.
• The Ink & Brayer Zone (Gel Plate Printing): Dive into the incredibly satisfying world of monotype gel printing. Use soft brayers, water-soluble relief inks, and high-quality Gelli plates to capture botanical textures, layered stencils, or organic shapes on heavy, vintage blueprint maps and dock documents.
• The Wire-Wrapping & Armature Station: Bring 3D concepts to life. Utilizing our heavy-duty wire nippers, needle-nose pliers, soldering irons, and a massive stockpile of salvaged copper wire, colorful telephone lines, and mesh grids, you can construct jewelry, abstract sculptures, or solid armatures for paper-mâché and wearable art.
• The "Mad Scientist" Salvage Vault: Raid our premium upcycled inventory to create high-concept assemblages, collage, or mixed-media art. Work with structural blueprint copies, clockwork gears, non-functional tech motherboards, plexiglass sheets, and industrial fabrics.
THE SANCTUARY PHILOSOPHY: This is a space of high boundary and high autonomy. There are no step-by-step instructions. We are on the studio floor purely to demonstrate advanced safety techniques, help you troubleshoot complex structural roadblocks, and pass the miter shears when you need them. This is a space designed to let you build your identity, discover your style, and connect with other local creators in a relaxed, music-filled workshop atmosphere.
