POP UP - Drop in Classes See Calendar
Ages: 3 – 5 (with Caregiver) | Schedule: Drop-In Session Style Rate: $10/hr studio
A magical, cozy combination of literary storytelling and uninhibited, sensory-rich process play. This laboratory is designed for our youngest makers and their caregivers to explore texture, color, and scale without the pressure of completing a rigid finished craft. We begin each session gathered on floor cushions to listen to an beautifully illustrated children's book that celebrates imagination, building, or making glorious messes. Afterward, we open up our dedicated sensory tables where raw, tactile materials are laid out to touch, mix, and explore.
Story & Sensory Rotations:
Yarn, Fabric & Felt Scraps: Focuses on soft fibers, color sorting, and simple weaving. Little hands practice squeezing, pulling, and threading textures through wire frameworks while listening to cozy tales about spinning and nesting.
Cardboard Kingdoms & Box Play: Taps into early spatial engineering. Using light, safe cardboard boxes, paper tape, and soft tubes, young builders stack, stack, and construct physical houses or creatures inspired by classic stories of box-house builders.
Dough, Squish & Squeeze: Dives into fine-motor muscle-strengthening. We mix up our own custom safe-scented play doughs, introducing rolling pins, blunt wooden stamps, and upcycled bottle caps to pinch, pound, and sculpt.
Forest Floors & Rain Painting: Brings the beautiful Ketchikan rainforest indoors! We use natural pinecones, soft cedar branches, and wet mosses to print, stamp, and sponge-paint with safe, non-toxic water colors, accompanied by traditional Southeast Alaskan nature lore.
LITTLE SEEDS BENEFIT: Young makers develop fine-motor strength and spatial mapping through sensory play. Caregivers act as active 'co-pilots,' building shared memories while the studio handles all of the cleanup!
