The Sensory Lab: Neurospicy Open Studio

$10.00

DROP-IN! Dates Posted on Calendar

Ages: All Ages Welcome | Schedule: Drop-In Block (Caregiver Co-Pilot Required)

Rate: $10 flat rate/hour

A low-demand, sensory-friendly creative sanctuary designed specifically for neurodivergent and sensory-sensitive makers.

During this specialty time block, we dim the harsh overhead mall fluorescents in favor of soft, warm ambient lamps and quiet background sound. The studio is organized around permanent, self-directed sensory stations, letting kids move and create at their own pace.

Caregivers stay and play as "Creative Co-Pilots" at a discounted rate of $5, supporting joint regulation and stress-free connection.

The space runs on our full ADHD-Proof Visual Infrastructure — transparent containers, consistent bin labeling, and silhouette pegboards — to keep executive fatigue at bay.

Active Sensory Stations:

  • The Deconstruction Zone (Heavy Sensory Work): A satisfying station for kids who love popping keys off old keyboards, untangling colorful telephone wire, and snipping soft plastic cable with safe, blunt-to-the-touch wire shears.

  • The Texture Wall (Tactile Exploration): A quiet, comforting space to run hands through color-sorted yarn skeins, soft fabric rolls, and silky ribbon scraps — practicing simple loops or sorting by touch.

  • Squish, Smash & Sculpt (Deep Input): Heavy tactile feedback with wet gray sculpting clay, kinetic sand, and shaving-cream color mashups to squeeze, pound, and mold with wooden sculpting knives.

  • The Free-Range Workbench: Full access to our baseline upcycled inventory and safe hand tools — like blunt Canary cardboard cutters — to build cardboard armor or imaginary structures.

THE TRANSITION WORKAROUND: Leaving a highly engaging sensory space can be genuinely hard for neurodivergent kids. At checkout, our $5 "Leftover Box" lets kids pack up their favorite sensory scraps and textures to bring a piece of the studio home — turning departure from a struggle into a breeze.
